BENGALURU, India, Mar 10, 2026 – ABB will invest about $75 million in India in 2026 to expand manufacturing and research and development footprint. The investment follows more than $35 million spent in 2025 and supports ABB’s Electrification, Motion, and Automation businesses. About 85% of ABB’s products and solutions sold in India are manufactured locally. The company has invested more than $230 million in India over the past decade to expand its manufacturing capacity. The year also marks ABB’s 76th year of operations in India.

“This investment in India is an important part of our strategy to support infrastructure build-out and growth in one of our fastest growing markets,” said Morten Wierod, ABB’s chief executive officer. “We are seeing strong demand driven by the country’s energy transition, grid modernization, data center development, and the rapid expansion of the metro and high-speed rail segments. Our expanded facilities will ensure we meet this demand while enhancing our capabilities to serve other markets in the region.”

Investing in Indian Operations

ABB plans to expand production across multiple Indian sites within its Electrification, Motion, and Automation businesses. The expansion will support energy transition projects and industries including data centers and public infrastructure. The investments are expected to create about 300 skilled jobs in engineering, operations, and research.

Bengaluru: Nelamangala 1 and 2

ABB will invest $14 million in its Nelamangala campus to expand manufacturing and support local production. The company is upgrading production at Campus 1 and preparing new electrical protection and enclosure products for 2026. The investment also expands ABB’s converter manufacturing facility for India’s sustainable mobility sector. Over the next three to five years, ABB plans to expand its portfolio for high-speed rail and metro transportation, including propulsion systems, converters, traction motors and services.

ABB will use its newly built Nelamangala Campus 2 to expand production of uninterruptible power supply solutions and support related R&D. The facility will include rectifier manufacturing, excitation and blending systems, and an integrated gas analyzer systems unit. The site will serve multiple industries and support regional power and process infrastructure.

Bengaluru: Peenya

ABB will invest $21 million at its Peenya operations to expand manufacturing and technology capabilities. The investment adds capacity for low voltage drives and motors, including flameproof (Ex) motors, roller table motors, and smoke-venting motors. ABB is also adding an innovation lab, remote monitoring and diagnostics, and training facilities to support digital services. The company is upgrading its electromagnetic flowmeter calibration rig to support localization and equipment manufacturing in India.

Hyderabad

ABB is developing a multi-phase laboratory and office hub in Hyderabad. Phase one includes a $12 million investment in 2026 and the relocation of operations in February 2026 to a leased office and laboratory facility of more than 12,400 square meters. Phase two will add a lab on ABB-owned land spanning 16,630 square meters, scheduled for 2026. The site will support R&D and engineering teams.

Nashik

ABB will invest $22 million to expand its Nashik facility for indoor and outdoor circuit breaker manufacturing. The project also expands the Vacuum Interrupter (VI) factory at the site. The expansion will support localization of 33kV Primary Gas Insulated Switchgear and SF6-free technologies by 2028.

Vadodara

ABB will invest $6 million to expand manufacturing at its Vadodara facility. The project increases production of synchronous generators and expands induction motor manufacturing to meet demand from metals, oil and gas, cement, and wind sectors. ABB will also expand its services workshop, upgrade facilities, and add a training center.

In 2025, ABB’s India revenue exceeded $1.5 billion, about 4% of the ABB Group’s revenue. The company employs more than 10,000 people in India and operates across five locations with nearly 25 manufacturing, distribution, and operating sites, supported by five R&D centers.
