ZURICH, Switzerland, Mar 20, 2026 – ABB has launched EmissionVision, a management workflow platform for methane leak detection across natural gas industry. Built on ABB’s OA-ICOS laser absorption technology, EmissionVision supports a shift from traditional gas surveys to advanced leak detection methods. It connects emission data, field inspections, and analysis in one platform, allowing operators to assign tasks, manage emissions data, and track repair activity.

Stricter environmental regulations and the need for faster detection are driving a shift away from manual leak detection in the natural gas industry. Utilities and industrial operators using mobile systems such as ABB’s MobileGuard and MicroGuard face challenges in workflow management, data consolidation, and task delegation. EmissionVision supports automation of workflow management, work order tracking, and audit trails from initial detection through leak pinpointing.

“With increasingly stringent environmental regulations and growing demands to reduce methane emissions, it’s crucial for us to support our customers in adopting advanced leak detection without adding operational complexity,” said Jason Ghiraldini, global product manager, natural gas leak detection from ABB’s measurement & analytics division. “EmissionVision simplifies how emission indications are managed, dispatched and verified, enabling faster repairs, improved compliance and, ultimately, greater confidence in emissions data.”

EmissionVision is based on ABB Ability Cloud Analytics and aggregates leak investigation data across devices and locations. It collects field data from MobileGuard and MicroGuard surveys, along with follow-up measurements using traditional methods, and synchronizes it in the cloud. This presents a dashboard showing work order status and results.

Key benefits of EmissionVision include:

  • Automated assignment of MobileGuard emission indications to field technicians
  • Tracking and modification of work orders with audit trail
  • Offline support, ensuring no data is lost and automatic synchronization when connectivity is restored
  • Integration with ABB’s MicroGuard and third-party handheld devices, supporting workflows for follow-up investigations
  • Cybersecurity compliance certified to IEC 62443 standards

ABB applies automation to leak detection workflows for identifying and repairing natural gas leaks. The approach addresses operational and environmental requirements. EmissionVision integrates these processes and provides methane emissions tracking, along with support for safety and regulatory compliance.
