ZURICH, Switzerland, July 16, 2026 – ABB is acquiring Advantics, adding Silicon Carbide (SiC) power conversion technology to its Direct Current (DC) portfolio. The deal strengthens ABB’s position in data centers, industrial microgrids, power generation and EV infrastructure, sectors where demand for DC power is growing. The transaction is expected to close by Q4 2026.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that electricity’s share of final energy consumption will rise from 20% to around 36% by 2035. ABB’s DC solutions use semiconductor technology to control electrical power while reducing repeated AC/DC conversion.
Advantics’ SiC technology adds to the components ABB uses to design, protect, convert, distribute and manage power in DC electrical architectures. Combined with ABB’s existing work in protection, distribution, digital control and system-level engineering, the acquisition supports development of DC systems built around power density, resilience and efficiency.
