Altera Advances RF Processing with Agilex 9 FPGAs

New Direct RF devices combine converters, logic and processing for radar, defense and advanced communications workloads

BOSTON, MA, June 16, 2026 – Altera’s Agilex 9 Direct RF-Series SoC FPGAs are now available at the International Microwave Symposium, delivering 40% more compute capability per square millimeter for RF applications that need high processing density.

The devices target applications that must handle RF bandwidths and respond in real time, including aerospace, defense, and advanced communications systems, while allowing developers to adapt RF architectures as requirements change.

The Agilex 9 Direct RF-Series SoC FPGAs integrate high-speed data converters, programmable logic, and processing elements in a single package. The integration is intended to reduce multi-chip design complexity, manage power consumption, and support signal processing.

“Across aerospace, defense, and advanced communications, our customers are being asked to handle more data and operate within tighter constraints,” said John Sotir, general manager of Altera’s aerospace, defense and government business unit. “With our latest Agilex 9 Direct RF device, we’re helping them meet those challenges by bringing together high-performance compute, memory, and RF capabilities into a single, highly integrated platform.”

Building on Altera’s Direct RF portfolio, the Agilex 9 device provides 45% greater logic and DSP density than the previous generation and supports DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory technologies d. With 64Gsps wideband RF, high compute and memory resources, the device can replace multi-chip designs while supporting beamforming for radar and data cube processing. The RF platform also supports high-bandwidth signal capture, allowing customers to update designs over time.

Engineering samples of the Agilex 9 Direct RF-Series SoC FPGA AGRW039 device are available as of date. Production silicon and development kits will be available in Q3 2026.
