Arcol has officially launched its BIM 2.0 platform in June and showcased it at AEC Magazine’s NXT BLD conference. It occupies the conceptual phase of design, offering a browser-based environment for real-time, multi-user collaboration during early-stage building modelling.

Why does this matter for architects and engineers?

  • Cloud-native and lightweight: No desktop installs required—runs in Google Chrome or Edge. Works smoothly even on large context models, though detailed geometry and iOS/Safari support are still under development.
  • Focused collaboration on concept design: Arcol enables synchronous work across locations (e.g., UK/US teams modelling concurrently), linking modelling, data, and presentation in one unified workflow.
  • Integrated tools (“Boards”): It allows teams to combine 3D views, design metrics, mood boards, client briefs, and visual content. Boards update live alongside the model and can be shared via a link—no license required for clients or stakeholders
  • Parametric modelling and metrics: Basic operations (push/pull, lofts, Boolean, parametrics) are supported. Real-time metrics include floor area, cost estimation, parking count, shadow studies, and zoning info. These feed directly into the model and board updates.
  • Ease of use and adoption: The UI is clean, intuitive, and requires minimal training. Teams can adopt Arcol for early-stage design without needing entrenched BIM workflows.

Pricing and roadmap

  • Free plan is available for solo users (limited projects, no Revit export).
  • Team licence is available for $100/user/month, with roles for editors/designers and viewers by link.
  • Future development focuses on deeper modelling, Rhino/Grasshopper integration, and extending toward full lifecycle support to rival broader BIM platforms.

Arcol delivers a streamlined, collaborative BIM tool tailored to architects and engineers working in early design phases. With real-time modelling, instant metrics, and presentation integration, it promises to simplify conceptual workflows while positioning itself for future expansion.
