At Autodesk University 2026, Autodesk presented a more mature vision for Forma as the cloud platform connecting architecture, engineering, construction, and operations. Previously separate cloud applications are being consolidated under the Forma brand, signaling Autodesk’s intention to make it a central environment for AEC workflows, tells Architosh.
Infrastructure is becoming part of this strategy. Civil 3D is now a Forma Connected Client, while the new Forma Street Design beta targets early-stage civil design. Forma Site Design and Forma Building Design continue to support early building design and transfer information into Revit.
Autodesk also clarified the long-term relationship between Forma and Revit. The company expects more work currently performed in Revit to move directly into Forma over time. However, Autodesk says the transition will be gradual and that it will continue investing in Revit while customers move toward increasingly cloud-based workflows.
AI is another major part of this transition. Autodesk is positioning its approach as Project Intelligence, emphasizing AI informed by project data, design intent, schedules, requirements, and industry context. New capabilities include Autocomplete Room Elements, Optimized Annotations, Automated Documentation, and Drawing Compliance. The latter can identify potential drawing problems and apply user-defined rules covering design standards, owner requirements, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Autodesk Assistant can search drawings and direct users to relevant sheets, while Drawing Change Analysis helps teams identify meaningful differences between revisions. Autodesk is also previewing a next-generation Assistant that combines specialized AI agents, project information, and Autodesk tools.
Forma is expanding further into construction. Forma Bid incorporates BuildingsConnected workflows for managing invitations, comparing bids, checking estimates, and identifying scope gaps. Meanwhile, the mobile Daily Log Agent can convert a superintendent’s spoken field update into structured project data.
Together, the announcements show Autodesk moving toward a connected AEC environment in which Forma spans more of the project lifecycle, while contextual AI automates documentation, compliance checks, information retrieval, and routine construction tasks.
