BEIJING, China, July 22, 2025 – Bird and Segway have partnered to deploy co-developed electric scooters and e-bikes across North American markets. The rollout blends Segway’s hardware with Bird’s fleet expertise to advance safe, scalable micromobility.

The partnership launches three models: Bird Dash, Bird Explorer and Bird Journey. Each model is designed for diverse rider needs, including daily commuting and recreational trips. All models offer improved vehicle durability, updated safety systems and reduced environmental impact. Deployment begins this summer in North America.

“This collaboration brings together the best of what Bird and Segway offer: world-class technology, rider-first design, and innovation to deliver more sustainable urban mobility,” said Stewart Lyons, co-CEO of Bird. “Together, we’re shaping the future of micromobility by expanding access to safe, reliable, and efficient transportation in cities and communities around the world.”

Optimized for Efficiency and Performance

The new vehicles feature IPX7-rated water resistance, reinforced frames and low-maintenance parts to increase system uptime and lower operating costs. The Bird Journey e-bike can travel up to 90 kilometers on a single charge, supporting extended commutes and minimizes battery replacements. Optimized energy use lowers standby power and improves fleet efficiency. These updates reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and maintain sustained value over time.

Rider feedback for this initial launch has been positive, resulting in a 40% increase in ridership. Riders like the ride, look and features like the charging block for mobile device.

Commitment to Safety and Compliance

All three models feature braking systems (dual drum + electric), LED lighting with turn indicators, and sensors to detect sidewalks and pedestrians – triggering alerts and automatic speed adjustments to prevent collisions. Each model are certified with industry benchmarks, the UL2272 and UL2849.

“Segway has always pushed the boundaries of intelligent mobility,” said Alan Zhao, general manager of the sharing business division. “With Bird, we’re delivering a smarter and safer riding experience, purpose-built for today’s cities and tomorrow’s expectations.”

Designed for Sustainability

The new fleet incorporates recycled materials, modular components, closed-loop packaging and batteries with extended service life. These features align with Bird and Segway’s aim to support the use of climate-friendly mobility solutions.

Bird and Segway are working together to expand options in shared mobility. This launch begins their partnership to develop new micromobility solutions on sustainability.
