AVON, MN and SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Sep 16, 2025 – With demand for utility-scale solar projects rising, Blattner is partnering with Built Robotics to deploy AI-powered construction robots on U.S. sites. The plan is to handle high-risk tasks like pile driving, surveying, material handling, drilling and trenching and enhance safety for crews.
The Next Chapter in Utility-Scale Solar Construction
This working collaboration continues prior work between Blattner and Built, combining Blattner’s experience in renewable energy construction with Built’s automation technology.
“Safety is a priority for us,” shared Brandon Bruski, vice president – solar at Blattner. “Our work with Built allows us to remove the risks of pile driving to team members on-site while also maintaining and even improving quality, accelerating project schedules and delivering certainty to our clients.”
“Blattner is the leader in their field and earning their trust means a lot,” commented Noah Ready-Campbell, CEO of Built Robotics. “Our robots have already deployed on five Blattner projects, and on each of them we’ve both learned from the subject matter experts in the field and delivered a quality work product that’s ready for the next crew. It’s an honor to have this partnership and take things to the next level.”
A Commitment to Safety
Improving jobsite safety is a main objective of the partnership. Tasks like pile driving carry risks, including struck-by, pinch, slip, and soft-tissue injuries when safety controls are not applied.
To reduce these risks, Built’s robots are operated by trained personnel from a safe distance. This approach lowers the chance of injuries while improving the capacity for safe operations.
Each robot also includes an eight-layer safety system featuring AI-based personnel detection, geofence barriers, and other safety mechanisms. According to the company, this system has maintained a record of zero injuries across dozens of construction projects to date.
