Boeing has signed a contract with Liebherr-Aerospace for brake remote electronic units (REUs) on the 777-8 Freighter. The REU, installed one per aircraft, functions as a data concentrator in the braking system, supports active brake monitoring, and complies with EASA and FAA regulations for latent failure detection.
Liebherr-Aerospace began developing its REU concept in 2018. The 777-8F brake REU is the second REU type the company supplies to Boeing, after the nose wheel steering unit for the 787. Liebherr also provides Boeing with the main gear steering control unit for the 777.
Dr. Klaus Schneider, chief technology officer at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, adds: “We have worked in close collaboration with our customer over the past decade. To be on board Boeing commercial airplanes with our electronic products is an important milestone for Liebherr.”
The brake REUs are manufactured by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH in Lindenberg (Germany), in cooperation with CUONICS GmbH based in Straubing (Germany). The main gear steering control unit and nose wheel steering control unit are produced with Liebherr-Electronics and Drives GmbH in Lindau (Germany).
