BEDFORD, NH, July 24, 2025 – Bold Laser Automation has introduced the DS1250LJX, a dual-scanner pre-inspection platform engineered for IP69K-rated environments. Designed for food and medical packaging lines, the system integrates Keyence LJX and LJS 2D/3D laser line scanners to detect debris and defects before the fill stage. By identifying issues early, it supports compliance, minimizes recall risks, and improves process reliability in production.
“Even with the most diligent packaging practices, an entire product batch can be derailed by a fragment of plastic, a trace of dust, or misapplied adhesive,” said Todd Lizotte, CEO and co-founder of Bold Laser Automation. “Product recalls can also lead to costly lawsuits and damage to brand trust. Our system avoids these mishaps in the first place.”
2D/3D Inspection in Harsh Environments
The DS1250LJX is designed for heat, humidity, and high-pressure washdown conditions found in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical production. Its integrated Keyence LJX and LJS laser profilers supply real-time, high-resolution 2D and 3D surface data. This allows for detection of debris, surface defects, and contamination, including issues inside transparent or translucent containers.
The dual-scanner setup provides full surface coverage of each package before the fill station. This level of precision and redundancy allows the system to detect potential threats that may go unnoticed by visual inspection or machine-vision systems.

Minimizing Production Disruptions
Bold’s design team identifies the optimal mounts and locations for the scanning assembly. The system integrates with the existing PLC of the fill station for operator control. Both the motion control components and enclosures meet IP69K environments, allowing for operation in demanding production conditions.
“In a competitive market, where one quality slip can shift customer loyalty, the cost of not having such a system is far greater than the cost of implementation,” said Lizotte. “The DS1250LJX platform protects brands from the downstream effects of defective packaging and contamination leading to product recalls and FDA investigations.”
The DS1250LJX helps prevent contamination and supports lean manufacturing and traceability by integrating with MES and QMS platforms. Early detection capabilities improve packaging line cleanliness and speed, reducing downtime and minimizing customer complaints.
“This system not only enhances the inspection process but also streamlines production by proactively identifying potential issues,” added Lizotte.
