GREEN BAY, WI, Oct 3, 2025 – BW Converting will showcase its Baldwin Electrode Press Industrial Cleaning (EPIC) System at The Battery Show North America, taking place Oct. 6–9, 2025, at Huntington Place in DE. The event will give battery manufacturers the opportunity to see how EPIC streamlines electrode calendaring and supports cell production.

The EPIC System is the first automated in-line cleaner for calendar rolls used in battery manufacturing. It removes the need for manual roller cleaning. The system reduces downtime, improves process stability, and lowers worker exposure to heat and chemicals.

The EPIC system operates at process temperatures up to 150°C (302°F) and cleans rollers without cooling or halting production. Rollers can be cleaned in just two to four minutes. By comparison, traditional methods can require 45 minutes for anodes and several hours for cathodes.

Key benefits of the EPIC System include:

  • Higher productivity: Automated in-line cleaning keeps production running.
  • Consistent electrode quality: Cleaner rollers reduce defects and support energy efficiency.
  • Improved safety: Removes the need for manual cleaning of hot rollers with unsafe chemicals.
  • Flexible operation: Wash cycles, detergent dosage and other parameters can be set via touchscreen.
  • Ease of integration: Suitable for both new equipment and retrofits with minimal downtime.

“The demand for cleaner, safer and more efficient battery manufacturing continues to grow,” said Dennis Behnisch, product line leader, surface treatment, cleaning & spray, BW Converting. “The EPIC System gives producers a reliable way to maintain calender performance, protect operators and achieve consistent electrode quality at scale. Already in use at multiple facilities around the world, EPIC is providing measurable gains for our customers in workplace safety and product consistency.”

Attendees of the Battery Show North America can visit Booth #5650 to learn how BW Converting is helping manufacturers optimize electrode production with automated in-line cleaning.
