GREEN BAY, WI, June 4, 2025 – BW Converting will present the Baldwin Electrode Press Industrial Cleaning (EPIC) System at The Battery Show Europe 2025, held June 3–5 at Messe Stuttgart, Germany. The Baldwin EPIC System is designed for electrode production lines, addressing the need for effective cleaning processes that support uniform product quality and align with sustainability and safety requirements in battery manufacturing.
The EPIC System is the first automated in-line cleaning technology engineered for calendaring processes in battery cell manufacturing. By cleaning rollers during production at temperatures up to 150°C (302°F), the system eliminates the need for manual intervention, reducing downtime and minimizing the environmental footprint of cleaning operations.
Meeting Europe’s Growing Focus on Sustainability and Safety
European battery manufacturers face pressure to enhance sustainability and improve worker safety, and the EPIC System addresses these needs:
- Reduced Environmental Impact: By eliminating the need to cool and reheat heavy calendar rollers during cleaning, the EPIC System conserves energy and reduces chemical waste, aligning with Europe’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices.
- Enhanced Operator Safety: EPIC’s automated cleaning process removes the risks associated with manual handling of hazardous chemicals and hot surfaces, helping manufacturers create a safer workplace environment.
- Superior Battery Film Quality: Maintaining clean roller surfaces improves electrode consistency, supporting stable battery performance, enhances energy efficiency, and contributes to increased range in electric vehicles.
- Protection of Equipment Investment: By standardizing the cleaning process, EPIC prevents damage to expensive mirror-polished rollers often caused by improper manual cleaning methods.
“Scalability, reduction of scrap rates and safe operations have never been more important for the European battery market,” said Dennis Behnisch, product line leader, surface, cleaning & spray, at BW Converting. “Our EPIC System empowers manufacturers to not only meet stringent environmental and safety standards but also to produce consistently higher quality electrode materials. It’s a technology perfectly aligned with Europe’s manufacturing priorities.”
Attendees of The Battery Show Europe are invited to visit BW Converting’s booth to learn how the EPIC System can enhance sustainability, safety and quality across their battery manufacturing operations.
