Clarity Plastics has earned ISO 14001 certification for its two U.K. manufacturing sites in Birmingham and Telford. The company passed its first-stage audit in July and its second in August, completing the process within four months of registering. The certification applies to the firm’s management system. In both audits, assessors cited the procedures Clarity uses to reduce its carbon footprint and expand its recycling efforts.

“Importantly, the ISO 14001 accreditation has already led to a raft of new orders, as well as giving existing customers confidence that they are working with a supplier that is committed to minimizing its impact on the environment.”
Clarity Plastics also holds IATF 16949, the automotive quality standard. It injection-molds parts for customers in the automotive, construction, electronics, retail and medical sectors and operates 50 molding machines.
The company spent £500,000 on a Bole 1,500-ton press for its Highgate Street site in Birmingham. The press produces larger, heavier moldings that require higher clamp force and takes Clarity’s capacity beyond 800 tons for the first time. The machine also lets it take on jobs that draw on capacity at its sister plant, Stafford Park 15 in Telford, where the company is investing in secondary assembly and testing.
Newly commissioned equipment includes hot-plate welding and leak-testing systems, ultrasonic welding and other assembly processes. The additions let Clarity deliver finished components in-house, covering injection molding through welding, assembly and testing.
