ClassCAD.ai introduces an AI-driven, embeddable CAD system designed to let users create engineering models directly through AI platforms such as Claude and Codex. Developed by Swiss software company AWV Informatik, the system combines the ClassCAD modeling kernel with a self-contained Model Context Protocol, or MCP, layer that allows AI agents to interact with CAD capabilities, tells Develop 3D.

At its core, ClassCAD is a headless NURBS modeler that can run natively or as embedded WebAssembly code. It supports JavaScript and TypeScript, Python, and C++ through the same API. Rather than functioning only as conventional standalone CAD software, the kernel can be integrated into products and applications that require parametric model recalculation, constrained sketching, and STEP model creation.

Developers can work with two APIs. The Part API handles structured, feature-based parametric models and tracks the bodies created by individual features. The Solid API operates directly on solid bodies within a feature, making it better suited to custom parts created through code without maintaining modeling history. Together, the APIs support both parametric and direct modeling workflows.

The MCP-based AI layer is intended to reduce the CAD expertise required to create models. Once installed, it provides the AI agent with local CAD context for subsequent sessions. Users can describe a desired object through text or speech, or upload a requirements list, and have the system generate a model that can later be exported to conventional CAD software. Develop 3D cites an example in which ClassCAD.ai receives a shopping list of electronic components and creates a suitable enclosure around them.

This approach positions ClassCAD.ai as a conversational prototyping environment, collaborative automation layer, and foundation for customized engineering tools. The software is currently free for noncommercial use, while commercial licenses start at CHF 100.
