TOWSON, MD, Jan 27, 2026 – DEWALT and August Robotics have introduced a downward drilling, fleet-capable robot for concrete drilling on job sites. The system supports automated drilling workflows for data center construction and coordinated operation across multiple robotic units.
The robot is under pilot testing on data center projects with a hyperscaler and has completed 10 construction phases. Results from the pilot show drilling speeds up to 10x faster than conventional methods and a reported reduction of 80 weeks in construction timelines.
“Across the globe, hyperscalers, which account for nearly 80% of overall data center demand are investing in infrastructure to power AI computing, with an estimated industry-wide capital expenditure of $7 trillion in data centers by 2030,” said Bill Beck, president, tools & outdoor, Stanley Black & Decker. “Our customers consistently emphasize that speed of construction is critical. The robotic drilling solution meets this need head-on through schedule acceleration, cost savings, near-perfect accuracy and enhanced jobsite safety. DEWALT’s relentless pursuit of innovation to drive productivity is redefining how the world builds.”
The robot supports data center construction by automating drilling process across coordinated fleets. It drills thousands of holes for installation of server rack stops and structural legs that support overhead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Across 10 data center projects, the robot has reduced construction time by 80 weeks and reduced drilling costs. It has also achieved 99.97% accuracy in hole location and depth across more than 90,000 holes.
DEWALT is expanding its data center ecosystem with the robot, complementing PERFORM AND PROTECT tools that reduce vibration and dust and improve user control, along with its ICC anchoring solutions.
