ÜBERLINGEN, Germany, Oct 27, 2025 – Diehl Defense and Hanwha have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pursue development efforts in ground-based air defense (GBAD) systems. The MoU was signed in Überlingen, Germany, a step toward expanding European and international defense partnerships in the GBAD domain.
Both the companies will assess how Hanwha’s SAM radar system can be integrated with Diehl Defense’s GBAD systems. The effort combines each company’s engineering expertise and targets new defense market opportunities. Both companies also plan to begin support system development and joint projects, including that in the Republic of Korea.

Diehl Defense offers GBAD systems, including the IRIS-T SLS and IRIS-T SLM for short- and medium-range operations. Integrating Hanwha’s radar system into these configurations will allow Diehl to address customer requirements. As of date, eleven countries have selected the IRIS-T SLM system.
