TOKYO, Japan, Mar 16, 2026 – Epson and Manz Asia have announced a collaboration to advance inkjet technology for semiconductor manufacturing. Epson will contribute its inkjet printhead technology, while Manz Asia will provide semiconductor equipment development and process software. The companies plan to combine these capabilities to support new semiconductor manufacturing processes built on inkjet deposition. The effort targets advanced semiconductor packaging and electronics production, where inkjet systems enable precise material placement and flexible processes.

Epson and Manz Asia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop equipment designed for production-scale semiconductor manufacturing. The agreement expands earlier work between the two companies to apply inkjet systems in semiconductor processes.

The collaboration draws on an inkjet laboratory established in November 2024 at the Manz Asia R&D Center in Taiwan. The facility uses Epson printheads to support process research, sample printing, and technology evaluation. It also provides technical consultation for customers, including semiconductor equipment manufacturers exploring inkjet-based semiconductor production.

Epson will support laboratory operations using experience from its inkjet application laboratories. The company will work with customers on process verification and preparation for volume production.

Process Innovation based on Inkjet Additive Manufacturing

The inkjet printing method deposits and stacks functional materials on substrates such as silicon wafers and glass panels without masks. The process enables precise material placement while supporting flexible process design.

Compared with conventional fabrication methods, inkjet printing can improve material utilization and reduce environmental impact. Epson and Manz Asia are working on inkjet solutions for semiconductor manufacturing applications, including advanced packaging where reliability and efficiency are required. The technology targets applications that require high device performance.

Robert Lin, CEO of Manz Asia, said: “Digital printing is transforming semiconductor manufacturing. Together with Epson, we combine advanced printhead technology with our equipment and process expertise to deliver a precise and scalable inkjet platform that enables semiconductor customers to validate process parameters across diverse applications and move seamlessly from R&D to high-volume manufacturing.”

Shunya Fukuda, chief operating officer of Epson’s IJS operations division said: “Digital additive manufacturing using inkjet technology is expected to become a key technology supporting the evolution of semiconductor packaging. By leveraging Epson’s high-precision droplet control technology and volume production know-how developed in the display and printed electronics fields, we will work together with Manz Asia to build a scalable manufacturing platform that bridges laboratory development and high-volume production. Through this initiative, Epson aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry.”
