TELFORD, UK, Oct 14, 2025 – Filtermist Limited has introduced F Save, a control system sought to improve operations in oil mist collectors. Unveiled at the EMO Hannover metalworking event, F Save ensures that Filtermist’s oil mist collectors operate only when needed instead of running continuously through a shift.

F Save includes a sensor which attaches to the coolant pump on the machine tool and communicates with the F Save Hub. If the pump is inactive, the Filtermist unit automatically switches off.

As oil mist is generated when coolant is in use, this reduces wasted energy while keeping machine operators protected from exposure to airborne oil mist particles.

“Our research showed that some machines are only operational for around 20-30% of the working day,” explains René Joppi, managing director at Filtermist.

“If our unit runs constantly during this time, it wastes resources, increases costs, and adds to a company’s carbon footprint. With F Save, customers can cut energy usage by up to 80% and in some cases, achieve payback in under three months.”

He continued: “Only using the Filtermist unit when it is required has a significant impact…not just on sustainability, but on operating costs too.”

F Save does not require electrical connection to the machine tool, allowing easy retrofitting to existing units. By automating operation, F Save eliminates the risk of operators forgetting to switch collectors on or off, ensuring workplaces remain clean and safe.

The pre-study of this technology was led by applications engineer Krzysztof Kaszuba. He concluded: “Our research shows that, on average, a machine tool is only cutting parts for about 50% of its operating time.

“The rest is taken up by tool changes, part changes, or similar activities. F Save prevents energy from being wasted during these periods, offering thousands of customers worldwide a simple and effective way to cut energy use without compromising safety.”

F Save is available through Filtermist and its global network of approved distributors.

About Filtermist

Established in Shropshire in 1969, Filtermist’s ethos is to protect people by ensuring cleaner, safer and productive working environments. The company, part of the Swedish Absolent Air Care Group, provides a range of products and services designed to ensure the air in production facilities is free from contaminants such as oil mist, oil smoke, dust, fume and VOCs.  If left in the atmosphere airborne particles can be hazardous to health and can pose a fire and slip risk. Filtermist is best known for manufacturing a range of compact, quiet and efficient oil mist filters which are trusted by world leading manufacturers in more than 60 countries. In the UK, Filtermist offers services including consultation and project planning, extraction system design, specification, equipment manufactures and supply, installation and commissioning. An acquisition program means that in addition to Filtermist oil mist filters, the company also manufactures Dustcheck process filters, venting filters and dust collectors, and Kerstar industrial vacuums, including ATEX rated models. Filtermist is also the UK distributor for sister company Absolent AB and offers aftersales services including filtration consumables, COSHH compliant LEV testing, air monitoring and extraction system maintenance throughout the UK.
