Embedded MRAM supports automotive SoCs, with production planned at the Dresden fab in 2026

MALTA, NY, Mar 12, 2026 – GlobalFoundries has introduced Auto Grade 1 ready embedded magnetic RAM (eMRAM) on its FDX platform for automotive semiconductor designs. The non-volatile memory expands GlobalFoundries’ embedded memory (eNVM) portfolio for automotive applications. The technology is also part of the company’s AutoPro platform for automotive-ready semiconductor solutions.

The new FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM technology targets automotive and AI systems that require embedded memory. The memory supports endurance of up to 500k cycles with read speed of sub-10 nanosecond. The design also scales to support higher memory densities while addressing magnetic field effects. The technology operates in environments up to 150°C, supporting system-on-chip (SoC) designs for automotive applications.

The memory integrates with GF’s enhanced FDX platform, manufactured in Germany and the U.S., and supports compact and versatile chip designs. Tier 1 OEMs use eMRAM in microcontroller units for software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These systems rely on real-time processing for safety functions and over-the-air updates. The memory’s access speed and power consumption also support Physical AI systems, including autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.

“With the introduction of our Auto Grade 1 ready FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM platform, GF is raising the bar for embedded memory performance in the most demanding automotive and industrial environments,” said Ed Kaste, senior vice president of GF’s ultra-low power CMOS business. “By combining fast, reliable MRAM with our energy-efficient FDX platform, we’re giving customers a powerful path to build the next-generation of SDVs and emerging Physical AI systems. This milestone underscores GF’s commitment to delivering innovative, automotive-ready solutions at scale and empowering our customers to design future-ready solutions with greater speed and confidence from a trusted manufacturing partner.”

“MRAM is a technology at the edge of automotive innovation, providing speed, endurance and reliability that will help next-generation MCUs for software-defined vehicles with real-time, distributed intelligence,” said Dr. Dominik Erb, vice president of digital semiconductor roadmaps & operations at Bosch. “We welcome that GlobalFoundries delivers embedded MRAM technology on their FDX platform and creates a new solution that helps scale with the growing demand across the automotive industry.”

A process design kit for FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM is available through GF’s self-service GF Connect portal to support chip design development. GlobalFoundries plans volume production in Q2, 2026 at its Dresden manufacturing site.
