MALTA, NY and TOKYO, Japan, Feb 23, 2026 – GlobalFoundries (GF) and Renesas Electronics have formed a manufacturing partnership that expands Renesas’ access to GF semiconductor technology platforms. The partnership supports secure, resilient supply chains and aligns with U.S. efforts to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing for economic growth and national security.
The partnership comes as demand grows for semiconductors in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), electric vehicle battery management and industrial IoT connectivity. These applications depend on stable production capacity and consistent supply. GF’s manufacturing footprint across the U.S., Europe and Asia provides geographic diversity to support supply continuity.
Renesas will expand use of GF’s FDX (FD-SOI), BCD and CMOS platforms, including options with non-volatile memory, to support its SoCs, power devices and MCUs. Tape-outs under the collaboration are expected to begin in mid-2026.
Manufacturing will begin in the U.S. and extend to GF facilities in Germany and Singapore, along with its manufacturing partnership in China. The semiconductor footprint is designed to support Renesas customers building advanced systems and products. Renesas and GF are also evaluating the transfer of select GF process technologies into Renesas’ in-house fabs in Japan to strengthen production resilience and support future capacity growth.
