EXTON, PA, Jan 8, 2026 – Bentley Systems said that its Blyncsy platform is being used by the Hawaii Department of Transportation (Hawaii DOT) in the “Eyes on the Road” program. The initiative, led by Hawaii DOT with the University of Hawaii, focuses on improving roadway safety statewide.
Hawaii residents participating in the “Eyes on the Road” program receive 1,000 free high-resolution dash cameras that record video during everyday driving. The system collects crowd-sourced imagery of roadway hazards, including guardrail damage, vegetation overgrowth, and debris. Footage uploads automatically to the cloud and undergoes analysis using machine learning and AI analytics from Blyncsy. The process helps transportation agencies identify safety issues.
Blyncsy, part of Bentley’s Asset Analytics portfolio, analyzes dash camera footage and roadway imagery to identify the condition of transportation assets. As part of Bentley’s asset analytics portfolio, the platform helps agencies prioritize maintenance, improve roadway safety, and make data-driven operational decisions.
Bentley’s Blyncsy provides Hawaii DOT with near real-time visibility into roadway issues through the “Eyes on the Road” program. The system helps maintenance crews to correct hazards and ensure that roads are kept safe for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
“Our crews have been working with Blyncsy to refine the machine learning algorithms to amplify our efforts to efficiently maintain our transportation infrastructure,” said Hawaii Department of Transportation director Ed Sniffen. “The Eyes on the Road program will give us the information we need to get to damaged facilities quickly.”
Mark Pittman, senior director of Transportation AI at Bentley Systems, added, “Bentley’s goal is to give transportation agencies real-time visibility into the state of their roadways. By combining AI and machine learning analytics with dash cam imagery, we are helping Hawaii DOT move from reactive to proactive maintenance to reduce risk, lower costs, and save lives.”
