Hexagon has signed an agreement to acquire Rocscience from TA Associates and Rocscience’s founders and management. The acquisition would combine Rocscience’s ground and structural modeling software with Hexagon’s sensors and monitoring systems.

Rocscience will join the radar and monitoring division within Hexagon’s infrastructure and geospatial business area. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, Rocscience serves mining, civil engineering and energy customers in around 125 countries.

Rocscience software models how rock, soil and structures behave under different conditions. Engineers use it to analyze slope stability and ground movement and assess how tunnels, dams and other infrastructure are likely to perform over time. Rocscience also provides AI-assisted workflows, including a natural-language interface for engineering modeling and analysis.

Hexagon’s sensors, including radar monitoring systems, continuously measure physical conditions. Connecting those measurements with Rocscience’s predictive models would allow live sensor data to automatically inform, update and calibrate engineering models throughout design, construction and operations.

Hexagon expects the combined technologies to support risk detection, intervention and shorter analysis times, along with improved safety and productivity.

“Rocscience has an exceptionally strong team that has built a proven business with outstanding customer satisfaction. Its software is complementary to our sensor and monitoring businesses in mining, and increasingly in civil and infrastructure applications,” said Henning Sandfort, president, infrastructure & geospatial, Hexagon. “By connecting what our sensors measure with how Rocscience’s models predict, we can help customers move from data capture to informed action with far greater confidence. We are excited to welcome the global Rocscience team to Infrastructure & Geospatial and to Hexagon.”
