COBHAM, London, June 9, 2026 – Hexagon has updated ESPRIT EDGE with CNC programming functions for turning automation, Swiss machining, multi-axis toolpaths, heavy machining, and connected workflows.

As CNC machines add more axes, control options, and setup configurations, programming and verification becomes more complex. The first of four planned 2026 updates focuses on automation, collision checking, machining setup flexibility, and connected resources.

Turning and Swiss Automation

The latest release introduces ProPlanAI for turning, mill-turn, and Swiss programming. The tool applies AI-assisted programming to a range of machining operations by accounting for stock removal and previous machining strategies during process definition. This reduces manual programming input, limits reliance on test cuts, and helps teams apply machining strategies.

Support for multiple guide bushing configurations is built into machine models. Programmers can switch between setups, including chucker-mode, without rebuilding machine definitions. This simplifies setup for Swiss sliding-headstock machines.

Multi-Axis Toolpath Control

Updates to collision detection in advanced 3-axis turning add holder awareness. The software accounts for non-cutting elements when tool orientation changes through B-axis movement or Y-axis control.

Developed with tooling partners, the update gives programmers a detailed check of toolpath safety in complex turning strategies, where tool orientation and engagement change during machining.

Updates to 5-axis composite machining automate tool motion generation without external drive surfaces. This reduces preparation time in production machining and mold and die applications.

Heavy Machining

A preview of new U-axis turning capability supports turning on milling machines by rotating the tool while the part remains stationary. A linear axis controls diameter changes, extending ESPRIT EDGE into larger components and advanced machining scenarios. Pilot users are currently being engaged.

Connected Programming Workflows

A redesigned cloud connector gives users access to documentation, community resources, and software extensions. It also provides navigation between account management and application environments, helping teams work from consistent software resources.

Updates to knowledge-based machining provide control over feed definitions in drilling cycles. This improves compatibility across tooling strategies and reduces inconsistencies when applying non-drilling tools.
