Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division updated PULSE, its real-time environmental monitoring solution for coordinate measuring machine environments. The update extends sensing beyond the CMM to track temperature, humidity, vibration, shock, and probe deflection that influence measurement results. PULSE provides continuous visibility into these conditions across shop-floor environments.
“As metrology continues to move closer to production, manufacturers need greater visibility into the environmental conditions that influence measurement reliability,” said Luca Sala, product manager digital solutions at Hexagon. “PULSE complements the CMM by extending its sensing capabilities beyond the machine itself, helping customers maintain accuracy, reduce downtime, and operate with greater confidence in real-world production environments.”
Addressing a Growing Shop-Floor Challenge
In shop-floor environments, temperature variation, vibration, and physical disturbances can affect measurement results, including after parts are unclamped. Unlike climate-controlled metrology rooms, variable conditions complicate determining whether deviations result from environmental factors or require corrective action.
The upgraded PULSE includes hardware and platform updates for manufacturing and automation workflows, including:
- Integration with automation systems: Through Hexagon’s Metrology Communication Interface (MCI), PULSE data is transmitted to PLCs, MES platforms, dashboards, and automation software in a standardized format.
- Probe deflection monitoring: PULSE distinguishes between vibration or shock events and probe collisions that require recalibration.
- Modular architecture: The platform integrates with third-party systems and supports additional sensors.
- CMM compatibility: PULSE can be deployed across Hexagon CMMs and mixed-fleet configurations for standardized environmental monitoring.
These updates support CMM availability, measurement consistency, and automated inspection workflows.
Availability and Upgrade Path
PULSE is available as a system for new deployments, and existing installations can be upgraded with new sensors and software. The update uses a modular installation process and can be completed in 5 minutes.
