FORT WORTH, TX, Sep 15, 2026 – Joby Aviation’s five-day eVTOL flight campaign across the Dallas-Fort Worth region ran Sep 10-14 under Project Nexus, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP). The flights included operations into Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) Airport’s airspace and were designed to generate operational data for FAA safety requirements for commercial electric air taxi service.
Project Nexus brings federal, state and local agencies together with private companies to evaluate electric air taxi operations in U.S. airspace. The eIPP initiative was announced in March 2026.
Flight Campaign Schedules:
- Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW): Campaign kickoff and joint flight demonstration involving Joby and other aircraft manufacturers in coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation.
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport: Joby’s aircraft entered DFW’s airspace and landed at the Corporate Aviation fixed-base operator.
- Arlington, Texas: Round-trip flight from AFW through Arlington and over infrastructure including the Fort Worth Stockyards.
- Toyota Motor North America headquarters, Plano: Flight along an operating route connecting AFW with Toyota’s corporate campus.
The campaign builds on airspace research conducted by Joby, the FAA and NASA. Work in North Texas dates to 2018. In 2023, Joby and NASA used the Future Flight Central facility at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California to simulate electric air taxi operations around DFW. The simulation examined whether the DFW terminal area could accommodate up to 50 electric air taxi operations per hour.
Joby leased a 45,000-square-foot facility at Perot Field within the AllianceTexas Mobility Innovation Zone to support its activities in the region. The Texas flights followed Joby demonstrations in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. The North Texas campaign focused on operations between airports, urban locations and controlled airspace as federal and state agencies evaluate eVTOL integration into U.S. aviation operations.
