TOULON, France, June 5, 2026 – Kontron introduced CERES-TSN, a compact fanless Ethernet switch built for data traffic in defense networks. The managed layer 2/3 system combines time-sensitive networking (TSN), up to 28 ports, 66 Gbps line-rate forwarding and secure access controls for ground defense systems, naval platforms and optional avionics use.
CERES-TSN supports up to 24 1-GbE ports and four 10-GbE optical interfaces through rugged 38999-type connectors. The switch uses a Microchip LAN9696TSN switch fabric to move data through embedded network architectures.
CERES-TSN supports IEEE 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol and IEEE 802.1AS for low-latency, deterministic communication. These timing functions support real-time workloads such as high-resolution camera streams, sensor fusion and threat detection.
Deployments include combat vehicle networks, C4I and C4ISR systems, avionics, naval platforms, tactical communications and data acquisition systems. The switch also supports IPv4 and IPv6 routing, multicast, QoS, VLANs and redundancy.
Operators can manage CERES-TSN through SNMP, CLI and a web-based GUI. Security features include secure boot upon request, HTTPS, SSH and IEEE 802.1X network access control. Optional PoE+ supplies power to connected edge devices, including cameras and sensors, reducing separate cabling requirements.
The conduction-cooled design meets MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F standards. CERES-TSN operates from -40°C to +55°C, with +71°C available on request, and uses a compact IP65-rated enclosure for harsh environments.
“The CERES-TSN brings together deterministic networking, high performance and strong security in a compact rugged design. It helps customers build reliable, future-ready network infrastructures while reducing costs and time to market,” said Sébastien Vitre, product manager, rugged systems at Kontron.
Kontron designs and manufactures CERES-TSN in Europe. The switch is ITAR- and BAFA-free and is produced by a single manufacturer without third-party module dependency. It has a guaranteed lifecycle of at least 10 years, with warranty extensions of up to five years. CERES-TSN is available in a 28-port version, with another variant planned later this year.
Kontron will show the switch at Eurosatory in Paris (Hall A, Booth E55) from June 15 to 19, 2026.
