LINZ, Austria, July 22, 2026 – Kontron will supply about 150,000 5G Automotive Network Access Device (NAD) modules for a European automaker’s vehicle platform. Developed in Berlin and manufactured in Düsseldorf, Germany, the modules will provide the communications interface for over-the-air updates, vehicle connectivity, remote diagnostics and future vehicle-to-everything applications. The initial order is worth a double-digit million figure.
Kontron said the supply volume could more than triple if the automaker installs the modules across additional vehicle platforms. The contract marks the first use of the company’s 5G NADs on a European automaker’s vehicle platform.
Kontron manufactures the modules at a new production facility in Düsseldorf. The modules serve as the communications interface for software-defined vehicles (SDVs). They connect vehicle systems to external networks and support software updates and diagnostic functions without physical access.
Kontron is currently the only supplier developing 5G communications modules in Europe and manufacturing them in Germany. The production model provides European automakers with an alternative to modules sourced from non-European suppliers.
