FOUNTAIN INN, SC, July 28, 2025 – KYOCERA AVX has introduced the 6780-000 series IP20 T1 industrial Single-Pair Ethernet (SPE) connectors and cable assemblies, addressing the demand for ethernet solutions in industrial networks. These connectors transmit 1 Gb/s over a single twisted pair and deliver power using Power over Data Line (PoDL) technology – helping reduce system wiring while supporting reliable device communication. Compared to RJ45 connectors, which require multiple wire pairs and lack power capability, the 6780-000 series reduces board space by 45%, offering an option for space-saving and power-aware designs.
These components are easy to install and maintain. By removing the need for gateways, analog interfaces, bus systems, and field-level networks, they lower both system complexity and related costs. This approach decreases maintenance demands and minimizes the risk of unplanned downtime. The subsequent efficiency gains are imperative in advanced automation networks, sensor and actuator systems, control and monitoring cameras, smart grid, robotics, traffic management, transportation, and smart monitoring systems.
The 6780-000 Series T1 industrial SPE connectors are designed, manufactured, and tested to meet IEC 63171-6 and IEEE 802.3 standards. They support data transmission at 1 Gb/s for distances up to 40 meters and 10 Mb/s for distances up to 1,000 meters. The connectors feature an IP20 rating, are RoHS compliant, and include surface-mount solder tails for PCB termination, which helps improve data signal integrity between control systems and IIoT devices. Each plug incorporates cold-welded Insulation Displacement Contact (IDC) technology to support automated cable assembly with consistent mechanical reliability. The series is available with 22AWG T1 industrial SPE cables (1, 3, 5, and 10m), with custom lengths available on request.
In addition, the 6780-000 series SPE connectors are rated for 4A at 60°C, 60VDC operation. They are tested to withstand a contact-to-contact proof voltage of 1,000 volts DC and a contact-to-shield proof voltage of 2,250 volts DC. The connectors support a maximum mating force of 20N, and a minimum polarization and pull-out force of 50N. They are rated for 1,000 mating cycles and are for use in operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C.
“KYOCERA AVX is a proud member of the Single-Pair Ethernet Industrial Partner Network and, as such, is committed to the safe and reliable establishment of an SPE ecosystem based on global industry standards for transmission protocols and connectivity components as well as actively involved in the development of supporting connectivity solutions,” said Marc Actis, marketing manager, KYOCERA AVX – Europe. “So, we are very pleased to introduce our new T1 SPE connectors and cable assemblies and look forward to helping our customers transition to the new industry standard, which offers significant space and weight savings and can also help reduce system complexity and costs and improve reliability and efficiency.”
