Light Conversion Partners with Aerotech Laser Systems

New lab opened to develop laser processing systems integrating precision motion control for semiconductor, electronics, and medical device manufacturing applications

PITTSBURGH, PA, Oct 10, 2025 – Aerotech has announced of a collaboration with Light Conversion in a new 4300 square foot R&D facility located in Sunnyvale, CA. The lab, which opened in February 2025, focuses on precision laser processing technologies. Aerotech is providing a custom laser scanning and motion control system designed for high-accuracy micromachining. The equipment will be used in applications across the semiconductor, electronics, and medical device manufacturing industries, as well as other sectors that rely on laser-based micromachining.

Supporting them with our industry-leading precision motion control products will push the boundaries of what is possible in advanced manufacturing,” stated O’Connor.

The Aerotech laser processing system integrates Light Conversion’s 80W CARBIDE femtosecond laser with an AGV-HPO scan head for high-speed, precise motion control. The scan head enables fast acceleration and processing with minimal trajectory error. Combined with linear and rotary stages, the system offers flexibility and accuracy for machining round, tubular, or flat components. It supports a range of applications, including microfabrication, laser cutting, laser joining, laser texturing and laser marking.

Aerotech’s programming features like Infinite Field of View (IFOV) and Position Synchronized Output (PSO) improve the system’s speed and accuracy at sub-micrometer levels. The precision motion system is controlled with a single Automation1 motion controller, simplifying machine setup and deployment.

The synergy of Light Conversion’s femtosecond lasers and BiBurst technology with Aerotech’s motion and scanner systems enables process demonstrations for semiconductor and medical device applications. “We are excited by the innovations anticipated by this partnership with Aerotech,” said Lucian Hand, Light Conversion’s president for North American operations.

Light Conversion’s new ~4300 square foot lab (400 square meter) is designed to facilitate testing and development of laser processing applications including cutting, drilling, marking and material modification. The facility also features microscopes and other diagnostic tools to evaluate samples.
