
OXFORD, United Kingdom, Feb 4, 2026 – Lumai has added René Bonvanie as chair of its board of directors as it moves toward commercialization. Bonvanie will work with the leadership team to provide strategic guidance during this next phase.
Bonvanie brings more than four decades of experience in technology companies. He founded a software company in 1983 and later held senior leadership roles at Oracle, VERITAS, Business Objects, SAP, and Salesforce.com. As founding chief marketing officer at Palo Alto Networks, he supported market positioning during the company’s growth in cybersecurity and its IPO. He also has board experience across enterprise and technology firms, which will support Lumai as it moves toward commercializing optical AI acceleration.

Professor Philip Torr joins Lumai’s advisory board for AI algorithms and software strategy. He brings scientific and engineering expertise from work at Microsoft Research, leadership roles at FiveAI, and advisory roles at Onfido. He has received several awards, including the Marr Prize in computer vision, and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society.
Professor Alexander Lvovsky, Lumai co-founder, will advise the company on optics. His research career includes work at global academic institutions focused on quantum and optical technologies.
