SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Feb 26, 2026 – Motive has introduced Motive Beacon, a durable asset tracking device built to help operations teams locate containers and small equipment that traditional GPS trackers often miss. Motive Beacon operates on the Motive Mesh Network, which uses Motive Vehicle Gateways and devices running the Motive Fleet App and Driver App to detect Beacons via Bluetooth and report their last known location. The system extends asset visibility across job sites and distributed operations.

Motive Beacon supports industries that manage mobile equipment, including construction, logistics and utilities. The asset tracking device monitors tools, containers and portable generators across job sites, warehouses and transit routes. It detects when equipment leaves a site or moves between locations and reports asset location data for small equipment used in field operations.

“Missing equipment costs companies billions of dollars annually,” said Robert Higdon, director of product at Motive. “With Motive Beacon, we’re helping give customers the visibility they need to locate equipment and assets within the Motive platform, the same platform they’re already using to manage the most critical pieces of their operations including vehicles, drivers, fleet-related spend, and heavy equipment. Whether it’s tracking billions of dollars worth of equipment, reallocating underutilized assets, or recovering left-behind equipment, Beacon helps teams operate more efficiently without adding complexity.”

“When you’re managing 4,000 pieces of equipment, Motive Beacon is a game-changer,” said Cristian Zuniga, region telematics manager at CRH Americas Materials. “It’s exactly the lightweight solution we needed to easily deploy across everything from our drones to surveyors equipment. Now we have a single view into how our equipment is actually being used, how often, and where it’s being underutilized. That level of insight helps us save money by pushing us to make faster, smarter decisions about what to scale up, what to retire, and where to invest.”

Motive Beacon lets operations leaders and equipment managers locate assets from the same platform they use to manage operations:

  • Gain more visibility with the Motive Mesh Network: With Beacon, teams can receive in-transit tracking alerts as often as every minute when paired with a Motive Vehicle Gateway. Motive’s network of connected devices provides last-seen location updates across operational areas.
  • Maximize equipment ROI: Teams can reallocate underused equipment, whether assets sit idle or see limited use. Beacon-tagged tools and equipment appear alongside vehicles and drivers in the Motive platform. Built-in reporting tracks equipment movement over time, identifies dormant assets and supports planning based on utilization data.
  • Recover misplaced equipment: Teams can locate equipment left at a job site or loaded onto the wrong vehicle to avoid delays. Upcoming Motive Dashboard updates will group equipment traveling with drivers and vehicles and display asset movement data. Alerts will notify managers when equipment leaves approved geofenced areas or is transported by the wrong vehicle.
  • Install seamlessly and track effortlessly: Beacon features a compact, waterproof design with flexible mounting options for attaching to commonly used equipment. The device provides an option for tracking small assets that were previously difficult to monitor. It includes a replaceable battery rated for up to four years and integrates with the Motive Fleet Dashboard for asset tracking with limited maintenance requirements.
