OSLO, Norway, June 26, 2025 – Nordic Semiconductor has announced the acquisition of Memfault Inc., the cloud platform provider for large-scale deployments of connected products. This marks Nordic’s growth from a hardware supplier to a solution partner.
Nordic provides a platform that simplifies development and helps reduce time-to-market. It enables ongoing software updates to maintain security, improve performance, manage power use, and add functionality of products during the product lifecycle. This helps customers work on new ideas without having to manage complex IoT systems.
Empowering product development through simplicity and scale
Memfault offers tools for tracking device performance, managing devices, and providing secure over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Developers and customers use these tools to watch over connected products and help them grow with demand. Nordic plans to add Memfault’s features to its product lineup and bring them into its current nRF Cloud services.
Building the future of innovative connected products
“This acquisition is a declaration of intent,” said Vegard Wollan, CEO of Nordic Semiconductor. “Together, we enable thousands of customers to continuously interact with millions of devices in the field.”
“We are setting a new standard in the global semiconductor landscape for integrating hardware, software, tools, and services. By combining Nordic’s ultra-low power wireless connectivity solutions with Memfault’s cloud services, we are making it faster, simpler, and more secure to develop, maintain, and improve connected products through their entire lifecycle,” adds Wollan.
“Nordic’s world-class Systems-on-Chip, paired with Memfault’s cloud platform, creates an unmatched full-stack solution for connected products,” said François Baldassari, CEO of Memfault. “Our shared goal is simple: Free our customers and engineers to innovate while the platform guarantees reliability and insights for millions of products in the field.”
Strengthening Nordic’s edge AI and security solutions
Nordic Semiconductor has expanded its abilities to address both current and upcoming market demands. As IoT nodes use edge AI and the EU Cyber Resilience Act set security requirements, Nordic’s software and cloud services will equip product developers what they need to meet these standards and stay up to date.
Commitment to continuity and customer trust
Nordic and Memfault have mutual customers. Nordic supports all IoT device maker, including those from Memfault, no matter which hardware they choose. The Memfault platform will continue to grow, with new work planned for hardware support, device controls, and features using advanced AI.
With this acquisition, customers will face fewer hassles and find it easier to focus on innovations. The solution should help get products to market sooner and reduce costs on operations. Customers will be able to manage their connected products throughout every stage.
