Phillips Federal Delivers Hybrid CNC, 3D Printing Systems to U.S. Navy

Haas-Meltio machines and Markforged X7 printers train sailors on metal repair, composites and replacement parts

HANOVER, MD, July 29, 2026 – Phillips Corporation, Federal Division, has delivered 12 hybrid CNC-additive manufacturing systems and 12 Markforged X7 composite printers to the U.S. Navy’s training facility in Danville, VA. BlueForge Alliance handled the procurement.

Each hybrid system runs on a Haas TM-1P CNC platform integrated with Meltio Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technology, combining subtractive machining and metal additive manufacturing in a single machine. Sailors use the systems to produce new components, repair worn parts, and restore assets, applying metal only where it is needed.

The Markforged X7 units print composite parts, tooling, fixtures, prototypes, and replacement components.

The equipment supports the Navy’s Afloat Training Program. The mix of metal hybrid and composite systems at Danville mirrors production gear deployed across the fleet, including shipboard units that have produced operational parts such as a replacement sprayer plate aboard USS Bataan.

The Danville Schoolhouse is owned by Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and operated in collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR).
