Pickering Launches 80A LXI Switching Platform

60-191 family controls high-current power and sense lines with programmable switching sequences and Ethernet connectivity
Pickering Interfaces’ new 60-191 LXI high-current switching family delivers reliable switching for signals up to 80 A and 300 V, combining high-current power switching and low-current sense switching in a compact platform.

CLACTON-ON-SEA, UK, Aug 11, 2026 – Pickering Interfaces has introduced the 60-191 LXI High Current & Sense SPST switching family, an LXI platform that can switch signals up to 80 A and 300 V while controlling power and sense connections for multiple high-current power supplies in automated test systems.

The 60-191 family is available in four configurations, combining up to 20 hermetically sealed 40 A SPST-NO contactors and four 80 A SPST-NO contactors with corresponding 1 A SPST relays for sense lines. High-current and sense-line connections use front-panel screw terminals. Custom relay combinations and alternative connector options are available on request.

Each unit can connect and disconnect a power supply’s positive and negative outputs, along with associated high- and low-sense lines. Engineers can control each relay independently or operate two high-current and two low-current relays as a group.

“High-current switching in automated test systems is often implemented as a custom assembly using contactors and digital output modules,” said Steven Edwards, head of product management at Pickering. “The 60-191 family provides fully tested, easily maintainable LXI alternatives in standard 4U enclosures, with the switching capacity, control features, and software support needed to integrate high-current supplies more quickly.”

The units can store up to 5,000 predefined switching sequences and run them through software or configurable hardware triggers. Storing sequences in the LXI controller reduces host transactions and system latency. Front-panel LEDs show switch status during programming and debugging. Relay cycle counting supports preventive maintenance and can balance relay use across available paths.

The 60-191 family uses an LXI 1.5-compliant 1000Base-T Ethernet interface. It can be controlled through an API or built-in soft front panel. IVI and direct I/O drivers support Windows and Linux, including LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, C#, MATLAB and Simulink.

Applications include EV battery and automotive electronics testing, fuel-cell and hydrogen-electrolysis research, solar inverter and energy-storage testing, aerospace development, and functional or production testing of high-current power supplies.
