KARLSRUHE, Germany, Jan 21, 2026 – PTV Group has joined the MathWorks Connections Program to expand MATLAB and Simulink-based workflows for virtual vehicle development. Built on PTV Vissim, the integration lets engineers run realistic, reactive traffic simulations to test and validate vehicle behavior in software-based development.

Through its partner ecosystem, MathWorks connects companies with over 100,000 organizations across industries. Partners can engage in design workflows and position integrated solutions on a scientific platform.

By linking vehicle, component, and control simulations, PTV Vissim adds realistic surrounding traffic to virtual test drives through co-simulation. Users can test automated driving systems in dense, dynamic traffic and assess operating strategies or powertrain designs over virtual driving scenarios.

The Vissim Connector links MATLAB and Simulink with PTV Vissim to test automated driving logic in microscopic traffic simulations. Real-time exchange of speed, position, and related data keeps simulated vehicles synchronized with the Simulink system in dynamic traffic.

The workflow lets users run trajectories from Driving Scenario Designer app, generate simulated sensor data, and automate sets of simulations. Through Vissim’s COM interface, users can script custom scenarios, while MATLAB and Simulink handle batch runs driven by parameter variations. RoadRunner scenes can also be imported into Vissim using OpenDRIVE format, extending vehicle testing and validation workflows.

“MATLAB and Simulink are established standards in virtual vehicle development around the world”, said Matthias Pfriem, senior product manager for PTV Vissim. “We are very happy about our membership in the Connections Program as an opportunity to highlight the options to connect with PTV Vissim and to point out the added value and enhanced realism that coupling with PTV Vissim can bring to virtual test environments.”
