KARLSRUHE, Germany, Dec 11, 2025 – PTV Group introduced PTV Model2Go TripGenAI, an AI-based tool that automates trip generation in macroscopic demand models. It uses AI to convert available data into trip estimates with reduced manual intervention.
With Model2Go TripGenAI, trip generation can be calculated at detailed spatial scales across a planning area. The tool uses AI to generate trip estimates for any planning area, drawing on population, employment and mobility survey data to capture real-world travel patterns.
Population data is allocated across a 100-meter grid. A statistical process then builds a digital twin of the population and divides it into demographic groups, from schoolchildren and students to working adults, non-employed individuals and retirees, each classified by car availability. This segmentation reflects mobility patterns for school travel and commuting.
“Every mobility model starts with one question: Where do trips begin – and why? PTV Model2Go TripGenAI answers this automatically,” said Mogens Abel-Bache, CTO of PTV Group as part of Umovity. “By standardizing data, structure, and methodology, the new AI tool reduces time, cost, and complexity – making model-based planning achievable even for smaller regions and municipalities.”
Next Stage in the Model2Go Product Family
TripGenAI completes the next stage in the Model2Go ecosystem, which includes:
- Model2Go Supply – automatically generates multimodal transport network models, covering road, public transport, cycling, and points of interest.
- Model2Go Demand – focuses on behavioral and socioeconomic components.
- Model2Go TripGenAI – introduces automated trip generation as the foundation for modeling stages.
TripGenAI outputs feed into PTV Visum, allowing planners to continue modeling without manual data preparation.
First Rollout in Germany
PTV Model2Go TripGenAI supports public authorities, consultants and transport operators developing data-driven mobility plans. It also helps associations studying accessibility and service needs. The tool automates trip generation and standardizes data structures. These features speed project delivery, improve reproducibility and produce consistent results across regions of different sizes.
PTV will first deploy Model2Go TripGenAI in Germany, drawing on AI-based spatial and demographic data. The company plans a broader European rollout in 2026 as part of its integrated Model2Go ecosystem.
