BONN, Germany, May 22, 2026 – Quantum Systems and Rohde & Schwarz signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at AFCEA to integrate electronic warfare (EW) functions into unmanned vehicles, combining signal intelligence (SIGINT) systems for tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with jamming systems for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).

New Capabilities for Unmanned Aerial Reconnaissance

The aerial work focuses on integrating SIGINT and drone defense technologies into Quantum Systems’ unmanned aerial systems. The configuration is designed to support reconnaissance of electromagnetic emissions using German-made UAVs.

Until now, these capabilities have been handled by manned platforms or strategic systems, including aircraft. The collaboration is the first approach to integrate SIGINT capabilities into a German-made tactical unmanned system.

Protecting Ground Troops with Unmanned Vehicle Systems

The ground-vehicle work will integrate Rohde & Schwarz jamming systems into Quantum Systems’ UGVs. The effort draws on experience from Ukraine’s defense operations and is aimed at moving electronic protection functions onto unmanned systems to reduce risk to troops and improve field flexibility.

Collaboration between German Companies

The partnership will move existing intelligence and protection technologies into unmanned systems for faster deployment. The cooperation also supports German capability development in unmanned air and ground systems, electronic reconnaissance and sovereign defense technologies.

“The requirements of modern armed forces are changing at a rapid pace. What is crucial today is the ability to quickly adapt proven technologies to new platforms and ensure they are immediately operational. Together with Rohde & Schwarz, we are creating a German solution for unmanned aerial signals intelligence and ground-based electronic protection systems, thereby specifically expanding capabilities on the battlefield,” says Martin Karkour, chief revenue officer at Quantum Systems.

“This MoU represents an important milestone in our mission to deliver innovative EW solutions,” says Alexander Philipp, managing director, Rohde & Schwarz Vertriebs-GmbH. “By partnering with Quantum Systems, we are combining complementary strengths to create powerful, future-ready capabilities for our customers.”
