ANDOVER, MA, Jan 2, 2026 – Raytheon has secured a $1.7 billion U.S. foreign military sales contract to supply Spain with four Patriot air and missile defense systems. The sales contract includes radars, launchers, command and control stations, and training equipment.
“Modernizing air and missile defense is vital to Spain’s security and sovereignty. Raytheon’s work with the Spanish government and local industry will help ensure readiness against evolving threats,” said Pete Bata, senior vice president of Global Patriot at Raytheon. “Raytheon is continuing to support Spain’s government while working with their robust defense industry to deliver Patriot.”
Raytheon has worked with Spanish defense companies, including Sener, on components for the Patriot missile system. Sener supports the electro-mechanical control system used in the GEM-T missile. Patriot is a ground-based air and missile defense system. It is designed to detect, track, and intercept cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, and aircraft.
Patriot has intercepted aerial threats in multiple conflicts worldwide and serves as an air defense system for 19 countries. The contract comes as Germany, Netherlands, and Romania have placed orders for additional Patriot systems in 2025.
