STATE COLLEGE, PA, Oct 14, 2025 – Remcom has introduced new tools in the latest release of XFdtd 3D EM simulation software to improve antenna design workflows. The update adds a phase difference post-processing tool for phased array analysis, expands options for far-zone pattern visualization, and includes performance improvements that speed simulation and analysis.
The release adds a far-zone post-processing tool that calculates and plots phase differences between antenna elements. This feature supports phased array design for angle of arrival (AoA) estimation in direction-finding systems. As ultra-wideband (UWB) technology expands for indoor positioning and tracking, simulating phase difference of arrival (PDoA) has become essential for evaluating system accuracy. XFdtd includes a phase unwrapping option that removes the need for manual correction, giving engineers definite results for PDoA analysis.
The far-zone spherical coordinate system can be reoriented, enabling users to create 2D pattern cuts along any selected plane. This feature helps analyze antenna performance on structures such as vehicles and aircraft. By visualizing 3D radiation patterns, engineers can assess device behavior, including how a smartphone performs when held in various positions.
XFdtd supports waveguide ports with its XACT Accurate Cell Technology conformal meshing feature. XACT uses a sub-cellular meshing approach that models curved surfaces without requiring a dense computational grid. Applying this technology to waveguide ports improves simulation accuracy and provides higher-fidelity results for microwave components like filters and couplers.
“The cornerstone of the XFdtd roadmap is to support engineers who are designing increasingly detailed and crowded devices with accurate, reliable simulation software that predicts behavior in the real world,” said Sam Seidel, XFdtd product manager. “Features like the phase difference tool enable our customers to keep pace with evolving technologies like UWB, accelerating their time to market while providing more trustworthy insights into device performance.”
