
TOKYO, Japan, Sep 11, 2026 – Renesas Electronics has expanded its RZ/G series with the RZ/G3L and RZ/G3SE, two pin-compatible 64-bit microprocessors (MPUs) for human-machine interfaces (HMI) and IoT edge systems. The devices combine Arm Cortex-A55 processing, 1 mW-level deep standby power, PCIe and TSN-capable Gigabit Ethernet for industrial and consumer HMIs, IoT gateways and home gateways.
The RZ/G3L integrates a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) for 3D graphics rendering and an H.264 video codec. Applications include retail terminals and medical HMI devices that require graphics usage. The RZ/G3SE supports systems with simpler display requirements, including EV chargers and industrial gateways with status indicators and configuration screens. Because the two MPUs are pin-compatible, developers can use the same PCB design across multiple product variants.
Processing and 1 mW-Level Standby Power
The processors support quad-core or dual-core configurations, with Arm Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 1.2 GHz. A Cortex-M33 coprocessor operates at 200 MHz.
Renesas’ third-generation RZ/G power-management architecture reduces consumption to the 1 mW level in standby mode. The MPUs can retain the Linux system in memory during standby and resume operation when required.
PCIe, TSN Ethernet and USB Connectivity
Connectivity includes PCIe, TSN-capable Gigabit Ethernet and USB. PCIe can connect 5G communication modules, Wi-Fi 6 modules and external AI accelerators. The Ethernet interface supports low-latency and reliable communications for industrial networks.

Software and Hardware Support
Renesas offers 10 ecosystem options spanning GUI development, operating systems (OS), software and system-on-modules (SoMs).

Reference Designs for EV Charging and Home Security
Renesas has combined the MPUs with other devices from its portfolio in reference designs. The Mode3 AC EV Charger Wallbox uses the RZ/G3L with high-level PLC communication.
The AI-Enabled Smart Home Security Hub uses the RZ/G3SE with cameras, microphones and sensors, along with cloud connectivity.
