TOKYO, Japan, Sep 28, 2026 – Renesas Electronics has introduced the SLG46801, a GreenPAK mixed-signal IC with in-system reprogramming and a 9-ball WLCSP measuring 1.155 mm × 1.155 mm. The device integrates analog, timing and logic functions for smart rings, smartwatches, fitness bands, VR glasses and other portable electronics.

The SLG46801 includes two analog comparators, configurable lookup tables, counters and delays, 10 kHz and 25 MHz oscillators, voltage-tolerant GPIOs and an I²C-compatible serial interface. These functions support sensing, control, glue logic, timing and system housekeeping. The device can supplement a microcontroller’s functions or replace multiple discrete components.

“Designers are being asked to integrate more functionality into increasingly compact products without increasing system cost or development effort, while also reducing power consumption,” said Jason Kim, vice president and general manager of the core analog division at Renesas. “The SLG46801 expands our GreenPAK portfolio with an ultra-compact WLCSP option and flexible in-system configurability, helping customers create smaller, more feature-rich products and implement updates even after deployment.”

The device’s multi-time programmable nonvolatile memory supports reconfiguration through I²C after installation in an end product. Engineers can use that interface for bug fixes, configuration changes and product upgrades. The SLG46801 operates and supports programming across a 1.71 V to 5.5 V supply range.

GPIO pins can be dynamically reassigned to the I²C interface in designs with limited pin availability. The device also includes optional CRC-8 error checking and read-back protection.

Designers configure the SLG46801 through Renesas’ free Go Configure Software Hub. The graphical development environment supports programming, emulation and simulation of custom hardware functions. Applications also include smart-home systems, networking and communications, computing and storage, industrial control and IoT sensor nodes.

Renesas also offers a 12-lead STQFN package measuring 1.6 mm × 1.6 mm × 0.55 mm. The STQFN option provides more GPIOs in a conventional plastic package for industrial applications.

The STQFN version is sampling now. Renesas plans to begin mass production of the WLCSP version in Nov’ 2026.
