TOKYO, Japan, Aug 31, 2026 – Renesas Electronics has opened a Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing, China. Customers will use the facility to demonstrate, validate, and jointly develop next-generation robotic systems, the company said. Renesas said the lab is the hub of its physical AI strategy, which runs from proof of concept to deployment at scale.
The facility integrates hardware, software, AI modeling, control, power supply, sensing, and system-level verification. According to Renesas, the lab covers the engineering workflow, from solution development through deployment.
“Humanoid robots are becoming more sophisticated and complex, driving demand for hardware and software systems that must work together seamlessly,” said Ivo Marocco, vice president and head of UX at Renesas. “Today, Renesas can address roughly 30% of the humanoid robot BOM, and we see an opportunity to expand that coverage to 70% through our strengths in control, power, sensing, AI, software and ecosystem solutions. Our new lab will help customers validate complete systems and accelerate the deployment of next-generation robotics innovations.”

As part of Renesas’ key strategy in China, this lab will accelerate the engineering implementation of physical AI systems.”
The lab is aimed at physical AI which perceives, decides, and act safely with a deterministic behavior. Humanoid robots are a key example, and they depend on embedded processing, sensing, actuation, power management, software, and development tools working together.
Renesas’ product line for physical AI and humanoid robotics covers brain and motion control, sensing, actuation, and power management. It builds on automotive and industrial experience, combining the hardware with functional safety, edge AI, and Renesas 365.
