REPS Secures $23.6M for Road Energy Production System

Road-embedded technology converts braking force, pressure and traffic movement into electricity at ports and logistics hubs

TYROL, Austria, May 22, 2026 – REPS secured $23.6 million in equity financing to scale its Road Energy Production System, a road-embedded technology that converts braking force, vehicle pressure and traffic movement into electricity at ports, logistics hubs and high-traffic sites.

The system installs into existing road infrastructure and captures mechanical energy from trucks and cars as they pass over it. REPS is focusing on entrances, exits, curves, speed-limited zones, loading areas and other locations where vehicles repeatedly slow down.

Road-Based Energy Harvesting System

REPS (Road Energy Production System) uses a patented road power plant built for use without interrupting traffic flow or logistics operations. The company is initially working with ports, logistics hubs, cities, industrial sites and high-traffic infrastructure operators.

“Roads are everywhere. Traffic is everywhere. What was previously wasted energy can now be transformed into clean electricity through REPS,” said Alfons Huber, founder and CEO of REPS.

“We spent six years developing the technology. Now the scaling phase begins. The strong demand from ports and logistics operators worldwide confirms the need for our solution, and with this financing round we can now scale at the speed required by the energy transition,” added Alfons Huber.

REPS says its converter delivers 254x higher efficiency than the next-best alternative currently on the market. The system works independently of weather conditions and time of day.

Why the Technology Matters

REPS is working in energy harvesting, a field that converts lost mechanical impulses into usable electricity. Road traffic alone could theoretically cover around 5% of global electricity demand.

Earlier mechanical converters struggled with efficiency and durability. REPS developed its converter to operate under heavy traffic conditions for more than 20 years and amortize within years.

Proof in the Field

The first commercial REPS system has operated at the Port of Hamburg since November 2025. More than 115,000 trucks have crossed the system, generating over 6,700 kWh of electricity under traffic conditions.

Following the Hamburg deployment, REPS is engaged with more than 90 port-sector parties across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. Interest has also expanded to logistics hubs and cities.

REPS estimates that about 230 systems across the Port of Hamburg’s public roads, excluding terminals, could generate about 10 GWh of electricity per year. The company said that output could power around 2,800 households, offset about 9.81% of CO₂ emissions caused by port traffic and produce a return on investment below four years. For a city the size of Dubai, REPS estimates that about 64,000 systems could recover about 3.2 TWh of electricity annually, equal to about 10.8% of the city’s current total energy consumption.

What’s Next

REPS sees road infrastructure as the first use case for a broader energy-harvesting system. The company plans to apply the technology in high-traffic environments where large moving masses create repeatable mechanical energy.
