IRVINE, CA, July 23, 2025 – Roland DGA has introduced S-PG2 inks and software upgrades for its VersaSTUDIO BY-20 desktop DTF (Direct-to-Film) printer. The updated S-PG2 inks improve image quality, durability, and process stability. The updates are aimed at startups, home-based businesses, and screen printers seeking for an effective way to handle profitable short-run jobs.

“Our new S-PG2 inks, as well as the beneficial maintenance and software updates, allow for a ‘refreshed’ BY-20 solution that provides a more powerful platform for first-time users and growing businesses alike,” said Roland DGA’s product manager of digital print, Daniel Valade. “These are important, solution-oriented improvements designed to help users start stronger, print better, and scale faster.”

The BY-20’s S-PG2 inks deliver increased white ink density and improved ink laydown, which leads to brighter colors and opacity with fewer printing passes. These inks help maintain consistent performance by minimizing clogs and supporting smoother ink flow throughout production. S-PG2 inks also dry faster than earlier versions, which improves DTF powder adhesion and wash durability BY-20-produced output. The inks and firmware are calibrated for the BY-20’s print modes and enable greater control and automation when used with powder and shaker systems. The BY-20 offers a cleaning liquid and head nozzle refresher to support manual cleaning of the printheads. These features are designed to help prevent clogs and extend nozzle life for less maintenance.

VersaWorks 7 RIP software, included with the BY-20, adds an automatic white layer generation feature for DTF printing. This function creates white ink layers (used in DTF printing) within the RIP software, eliminating the need for separate design applications. The feature simplifies file setup and reduces prepress steps, which benefits new users and supports high-volume jobs.

“With the new S-PG2 inks, enhanced maintenance tools, and smarter RIP automation, the BY-20 delivers the most intuitive and production-ready desktop DTF workflow on the market,” added Valade. “The increased quality, performance, and ease-of-use translates to maximum productivity and profitability for our BY-20 users.”

Availability and Support

BY-20 users are notified about the changeover to S-PG2 inks. Starting July 23, 2025, users will receive a free head nozzle refresher.
