Safran Power Units plans to double capacity at its Grand Prairie, TX, facility and create a new assembly line for TR40 turbojet engines used in the naval strike missile. The additional capacity will come onstream in 2028.

The Grand Prairie facility produces turbojet engines for missiles and drones. Safran cited growing equipment demand as the reason for the expansion and said there is scope for more expansion.

Olivier Andriès, CEO of Safran commented: “This increase in capacity demonstrates Safran’s deep-rooted partnership with the United States and our dedication as a trusted supplier to the American defense sector. By investing in advanced technologies and local talent, we are strengthening the resilience of critical supply chains. Demand for our TR40 turbojet engine family has quadrupled in recent years and we see significant opportunities for future applications. By launching a new assembly line at our Texas site, we are meeting the accelerating demand of our strategic customers.”

The TR40 family serves anti-ship missile applications. Safran reports more than 1,200 units delivered worldwide and more than 20 years of commercial and operational use. The company identifies the TR40 as Safran Power Units’ best-selling engine.

Safran Power Units reports 60 years of experience producing engines that power missiles used by the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.
