Safran Helicopter Engines has opened a 3,000-square-meter support, maintenance and repair facility in Norderstedt, Germany, strengthening its service base near Hamburg for helicopter operators across Northern, Eastern and Central Europe. The site supports Arrius, Arriel and RTM322 engines and is part of Safran’s network serving 300 operators and 2,300 engines.

The official opening took place in the presence of Claus Ruhe Madsen, Minister of economics, transport, labor, technology and tourism of Schleswig-Holstein. The event also included 200 customers, partners and institutional delegates.

Safran Helicopter Engines has operated in Germany for 35 years. The Norderstedt facility provides maintenance, spare parts storage capacity and 24/7 customer support.

The new site is 50% larger than the previous facility and employs 80 people. It targets carbon neutrality in operations through photovoltaic panels, a green roof to absorb CO₂, heat pumps and ventilation with heat recovery.

The new facility was built with support from EGNO, (Entwicklungsgesellschaft Norderstedt mbH) and the town of Norderstedt, adding capacity for helicopter engine support in one of Safran’s key European service regions.

Cédric Goubet, CEO of Safran Helicopter Engines, said: “The launch of our new German site is essential for delivering the highest standard of proximity service and support to our customers in the region.  The opening of this facility is a direct response to the strong growth in both the civil and military helicopter markets in Europe. It also strengthens German sovereignty by enhancing local expertise, particularly with the introduction of new helicopters into the German armed forces.”
