Sensirion’s SFA40 electrochemical formaldehyde (HCHO) sensor measures formaldehyde in air purifiers, indoor air quality monitors and air conditioners. The miniature sensor draws an average of 80 microamps, supporting battery-powered devices.
Sensirion reports low cross-sensitivity to ethanol and nitrogen dioxide. The sensor’s selectivity to formaldehyde, helps maintain measurement accuracy when other volatile organic compounds are present. The SFA40 has a lifetime exceeding six years. According to Sensirion, its anti-dry technology supports sensor longevity and stability during continuous indoor air quality monitoring.
Sensirion factory-calibrates each SFA40 in Switzerland. The sensor provides calibrated digital measurements through a standard I²C interface.
As per Sensirion, the SFA40 can detect formaldehyde concentrations below limits established by World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, the WELL Building Standard and Chinese National Standard GB/T 18883-2022.
