
ZUG, Switzerland, Aug 24, 2026 – Siemens and Electric Power Group (EPG) will integrate EPG’s synchrophasor technology and Wide Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS) into Siemens’ power automation portfolio. The Siemens-EPG setup will give transmission and distribution grid operators GPS-synchronized voltage, current and phase-angle data to supplement Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) monitoring.
EPG’s synchrophasor technology measures voltage and current magnitude and phase angle multiple times per second. GPS synchronization aligns measurements collected from different locations across the power network.
WAMS gathers and processes the measurements to provide a real-time view of grid conditions. Operators can use the data to monitor network behavior and identify disturbances across multiple locations.
The Siemens-EPG grid monitoring system is intended for transmission and distribution system operators (TSOs and DSOs), energy companies and operators of critical power infrastructure. Applications include grid monitoring, fault detection and assessment of changing network conditions.
The combined synchrophasor and WAMS capabilities add time-synchronized grid measurements to Siemens’ power automation portfolio for networks managing variable renewable generation and changing electrical loads.
