Siemens has introduced its SIQuench GM-SG and SIQuench Core arc-mitigation technologies to the U.S. market, targeting safer and reliable medium-voltage operations. The new systems limit arc-flash energy within switchgear, reducing equipment damage, downtime, and repair costs.

SIQuench for GM-SG is an active arc mitigation system developed for GM-SG family of medium-voltage, air-insulated switchgear. It uses the SIQuench device to extinguish internal arcing faults, limiting pressure buildup, contamination, and the release of heat and toxic materials. The UL-listed design helps protect equipment, reduce repair needs, and reduce downtime following an arc fault.

In addition to the GM-SG module, Siemens is introducing SIQuench core to the U.S. market. This OEM component brings the same arc mitigation technology to a range of medium-voltage switchgear platforms.

Both SIQuench systems reduce service outages by enabling faster recovery and operation. They feature continuous self-monitoring and send alarms when abnormal conditions occur. SIQuench systems are reusable up to five times without replacement and requires no maintenance for as long as 20 years.
