ZUG, Switzerland and HERBORN, Germany, Mar 23, 2026 – Siemens and Rittal have formed a partnership to develop standardized power distribution systems for data centers in the IEC market. The collaboration aims to support faster deployment of high-performance data centers and address power demands from AI workloads. Power density in AI data centers already exceeds 100 kW per rack and could surpass 1 MW by 2030. These requirements drive changes in power distribution, cooling and heat recovery design.
Siemens Smart Infrastructure is working with the Friedhelm Loh Group and Rittal to develop data center infrastructure, including power and cooling systems used by hyperscale operators.

“We have a long-standing collaboration with Siemens in a number of fields. We are proud to be taking our partnership to the next level,” said Prof. Dr. Friedhelm Loh, owner and CEO of the Friedhelm Loh Group. “Both companies are driven by the desire to innovate. As technology leaders, we have a responsibility to keep strengthening our customers’ competitiveness with the latest technologies.”
Siemens and Rittal are developing a “sidecar” power system for installation within data center white space alongside server racks. The system houses power electronics in a separate rack that supplies connected compute systems. This design standardizes power distribution and supports modular deployment.
The sidecar power system follows OCP standards and integrates technologies from both companies. It supports faster deployment, availability, stable operation and consistent power delivery for high-density computing environments. The design also addresses power efficiency requirements for AI workloads.

“To enable the rapid growth of AI, we need smart, reliable, and scalable power supply solutions for data centers and we need them quickly. In combination with our innovative electrical products and solutions, Rittal is an ideal partner when it comes to speed and standardization in infrastructure,” said Andreas Matthé, CEO electrical products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure.
Siemens and Rittal are developing a standardized low-voltage distribution system for modular and containerized data centers, along with systems for operational and personnel safety. Initial customer projects are in progress.
The solution integrates Siemens components with Rittal’s RiLineX and Ri4Power power distribution platforms. The companies plan to extend their collaboration to additional industries and applications.
